Designed around the technologically advanced ELD-X bullet, the Hornady Precision Hunter line of ammunition provides match grade accuracy and consistent, controlled expansion at all practical hunting distances.
At 400 yards and in, the Hornady ELD-X bullet is designed expand continually through it's penetration path. The higher velocities carried by the bullet at these distances causes the thin nose section of the projectile to peel back and shed material until it reaches the thicker shank of the bullet jacket where the Interlock ring keeps the bullet core and jacket together. From here, the remaining heavy shank of the bullet continues to drive forward and expand, providing extremely lethal results.
At greater distances, the Hornady ELD-X Heat Shield tip drives backwards into the nose cavity of the bullet, causing the expansion process to begin. At these lower velocities, the ELD-X bullet follows conventional expansion characteristics, such as a large mushroom and a high weight retention to help ensure deep penetration and lethal wound cavities.
Match grade accuracy and supreme consistency is the foundation of Hornady Precision Hunter ammunition. Developed as a superior hunting load with match grade accuracy, great care has been given by the engineers at Hornady to allow the ELD-X bullet to achieve it’s maximum ballistic potential. Only the highest quality propellants and primer combinations were selected to provide the most consistent shot to shot accuracy possible, regardless of environmentals.
