ALTUS Zermatt PROOF PXT 22CM Precision Rifle
A packable 22 Creedmoor built for long-range hunting where every ounce and every inch counts.
This build is for the hunter who hikes in and stays out. Every component was selected to keep the rifle light and compact, with the accuracy to make clean shots at distance.
Action: Zermatt Arms Origin Short Action
The Zermatt Origin was selected for its smooth bolt cycle and Remington 700 footprint compatibility. It gives this build a consistent foundation in a short action sized for a hunting rifle.
Barrel: PROOF Research PXT Carbon Fiber Zermatt Pre-fit, 22" Sendero, 8 PXT
The PROOF PXT barrel is at the heart of this build. PXT stands for PROOF Exponential Twist, a new approach to rifling geometry and twist progression. Instead of a conventional fixed lead angle, PXT reduces the rifling lead angle and smooths how the bullet engages the bore. That lowers engraving force, reduces throat erosion, and creates a smoother transition as the bullet enters the rifling.
For the shooter, that means less felt torque during firing, so the rifle stays steadier and you stay on target. It also means longer barrel life. In PROOF's controlled testing, PXT barrels have shown significant increases in barrel life while holding the accuracy standards expected of a PROOF barrel.
The carbon fiber construction is up to 64% lighter than a steel barrel of similar contour. The aerospace-grade carbon fiber wrap also improves heat dissipation for cooler, longer-lasting performance. The 22" length gets more velocity out of the 22 Creedmoor, and the 1:8" twist with 5-groove rifling stabilizes the heavy, high-BC .224 bullets the cartridge is built around. The barrel is threaded 5/8-24 for your choice of muzzle device or suppressor.
Stock: Manners Pro Pack Folder, Adjustable, Saltwater
The Manners Pro Pack Folder was chosen for backcountry carry. The folding design shortens the rifle to fit in or on a pack, and the adjustable configuration lets you dial in fit for your optic and shooting position. The Saltwater finish gives the rifle a distinct look in the field.
Trigger: TriggerTech Diamond, Pro Curved
A clean, predictable break matters when a shot opportunity lasts only a moment. The TriggerTech Diamond delivers a crisp break with no perceptible creep, and the Pro Curved shoe gives consistent finger placement, even with cold hands.
Bottom Metal and Magazine: Hawkins Precision Hunter DBM
The Hawkins Hunter DBM adds detachable-magazine convenience in a slim, lightweight profile. That makes loading and unloading in the field quick and quiet without adding bulk under the rifle.
Why It Performs
This rifle isn't a collection of good parts; it's a system. The Zermatt Origin and PROOF PXT barrel work together to deliver accuracy and long barrel life. The Manners folder and carbon barrel keep the rifle light and packable. Reduced felt torque and the 22 Creedmoor's light recoil let you see your hits and stay ready for a follow-up shot. The result is a rifle that goes wherever you go and performs when you get there.
