Accurate-Mag AICS-Pattern .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO DSSF Magazine

The Accurate-Mag AICS-pattern magazine for .223 Rem / 5.56 NATO brings the intermediate cartridge to bolt-action rifles built around .308-size bottom metal. Like its .308 counterpart, it’s a double-stack, single-feed (DSSF) design: rounds sit in two staggered columns and funnel into a single position at the top, so each one feeds from the center.

That .308-size footprint opens up a practical option. According to Accurate-Mag, a rifle with M24-type .308 bottom metal can be converted to a smaller caliber by swapping to a barreled action in the new caliber while keeping the same stock. If you want a low-recoil trainer that handles like your full-size precision rifle, or a more economical way to put rounds downrange, you can keep one stock and the same fit across both builds.

One important exception: Accurate-Mag notes this magazine won’t work with Savage .223 rifles because of their shorter bolt stroke.

Inside, a polymer insert guides the smaller cartridge into position, while the exterior matches the dimensions of Accurate-Mag’s .308 magazines, so it seats in the same bottom metal. It comes in 5-round and 10-round versions. Handloaders: maximum cartridge overall length is 2.325 inches.
